This is a recategorization of "Registration for online services" below
(originally listed as a comment/suggestion by the first poster).

The officebeta.iponet.net links are non-functional. As noted in my other
post, after confirming an internet connection (this computer), links directly
from Office Beta 2 to the website in question fail to load ("cannot display"
error). I have attempted to access the site via this computer, one other, and
a pocket pc to no avail. Alexa seems to indicate ongoing traffic, but
changing my ip address, using anonymizer.com and camping on the refresh
button all failed to load anything on the site (from registration to media).

Hi,

Office 2007 under Windows XP shows the Webseite, Office 2007 under Windows
Vista not.

Has anybody an idea why?

Hi JoAnn,

Actually you can usually access the Preview site for OfficeOnline 2007 from several Windows versions, even without the beta if you
install the Active X control from the link below for Internet Explorer.

However, at present there is a problem with the server hosting the OfficeOnline preview site, which includes the Office 2007 online
help files.

Hi John,

If you have Windows Vista 5384 (beta 2) and where you do *not* have Office 2007 beta 2 installed, then to access the OfficeOnline
2007 preview site (http://officebeta.iponet.net) there are a couple of extra steps needed to install the ActiveX site access control
(AuthInstall.msi) that may work for you.

1. Save the .MSI file to disk rather than run it from the link and not its location.

2. Use Start=>Accessories and right click 'Command Prompt' then choose 'Run as Administrator.

3. From the command prompt run/execute the AuthInstall.msi

Please post back with your results.
=========
The downloaded file is named "AuthInstall.msi". While this will install on
Windows XP Pro, it will not install on Windows Vista Beta 2 on my machine. A
Windows Installer "stop" dialog come us with the message "The system
administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." However the
"system adminstrator" [me] has not set such a policy! Looking at the
properties for this file, SYSTEM, myself as a user (sole user), and the
Admistrators group has "Full control" permissions. Looking at the Event Log,
it looks as if a message or string is either corrupted or not found. There
also seems to be an attempt at interaction with .NET version 2 >>
