Office 2007 opens hyperlinked documents in new windows

I've noticed that since installing Office 2007, when I follow a hyperlink to
an office document, Office now starts a copy of the relevant application
instead of just loading the document in IE. Does anyone know why this
changed?

After reading other posts on this board, it occurs to me that I should be
more specific about the problem. I have a website on which there is a "<a
href=" link to a .ppt document. Prior to installing Office 2007, when I
clicked that link, the .ppt file would open in Internet Explorer. Now when I
click the link, Powerpoint starts and the file opens in Powerpoint. I really
need the file to open in the frame that links to it. Does anyone know how to
make it work that way again?
