Office 2007 Overall Problem

I have not been able to open any file in any of my Office products. I can
open the program, see the basics, but when I click on open file and select a
file, it cycles continuously as though it is loading up the file. Nothing
works - PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Word - nothing.

Yes - I did run that program and it discovered no problems. I even
re-installed Office to see if that would help.

So far, nothing.

I have the same problem. My Office worked fine for 9 months, then out of the
blue it quit opening files. This is true for Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. I
tried creating a new Excel file and saving it. It did that just fine, but
then would not open it again, just like all the other files. I've run a
sweep on my computer with SpySweeper, but found nothing. I loaded the Office
SP1 upgrade, but that did not help. I have not yet tried reloading office,
but grandpa_d indicates that it did not solve the problem. Seems like the
problem must be in the overall Office software, since it affects all of the
Office programs. It's been quite puzzling (and frustrating) trying to figure
out this problem. BTW, I am running Windows Vista. I tried upgrading to
Vista SP1 to see if that would help. It didn't, and messed up MS Explorer to
boot, so I undid the upgrade.

Which anti-virus do you use.

Vinod, I noticed that when I tried opening an Excel document it would display
a message on the bottom lefthand bar saying that it was scanning for viruses.
I took your hint and started looking at my Antivirus software. I had the
following:
Norton Internet Security (out of date)
Spybot Search & Destroy (out of date)
Windows Defender
Spy Sweeper

On the hunch that one of them was interfering with office, I decided to try
shutting down them all. That didn't seem to work. Then I decided to delete
Norton, since I had never activated the software. It came loaded on the
machine with a 60 day free trial. I had assumed it was not doing anything.
Vista had trouble trying to remove it, and I finally had to resort to going
to the directory and deleting the files manually. Even at that, it refused
to let me delete 5 of the files. But I felt like I had "disabled " it for
good.

And then, like magic, all my Office applications work again!

I'm not sure if grandpa_d has the exact same problem, but it might be. Try
starting Excel, then try to open a file. Lookat the lower left of the window
and if you see a message displayed saying that it is scanning for virus and
it locks up, it's a good bet that your antivirus program is interfering with
your office apps.

As to why it suddenly decided to mess up Office after 9 months, I haven't a
clue. I'm not that computer savvy, especially with Vista.

My Office 2007 has problem to. When try to open any office program there's a
message "Microsoft Office <Program_Name> has not been installed for current
user. Please run setup to install the appication." I have tried reinstall,
repair, and Office Diagnostic but nothing can fix it.
