Now I am a OneNote MVP, so I am biased...but, being a student, OneNote
is a fantastic program. If you want to know more about this issue, go to
http://blogs.msdn.com/chris_pratley/archive/2006/02/13/531587.aspx
You should read the post and all of Chris Pratley's comment, as he
provided a lot of background/reasoning that went into the decision in
the comment. You will btw find comments on there from me wondering about
the lack of Outlook as well...

Patrick,
Maybe so,
but as I just said to Millie; that package was nice; they should have
left well enough alone; ahh but it's $$$$$
Just my opinion.

Jeff
Or buy Outlook separately. The Student/Teacher SKU has a really great
price and even with Outlook added is still very affordable.

| Well,

| Excluding Outlook STINKS!!!

Well, many people also get Outlook with their PDAs or SmartPhones, which is where Microsoft may be seeing their business grow. Besides, if you really want Outlook, purchasing a standalone version from Amazon.com (usually $20-30 dollar discount) may be worth it to those folks who really want Outlook.

Microsoft research has shown that many home users do not need Outlook and are happy with OUtlook Express for their mail needs. Plus, Microsoft Works has a calendar which is what a lot of folks use Outlook for.

Hi Patrick,

Another possible factor in MS not including Outlook is the MS OfficeLive offerings (http://officelive.microsoft.com) free Basic
edition includes the MS OfficeLive Mail feature that has some calendering/scheduling ability added to a web based email, so that now
not having Outlook doesn't leave someone completely without some of that feature set missing from Outlook for the family/individual
user.

As mentioned in Chris Pratley's (Word, Publisher, OneNote mgr at MS) blog entry at
http://blogs.msdn.com/chris_pratley/archive/2006/02/13/531587.aspx#533965
revenue intake is what they're in business for <g>) and promoting the use of MS online services such as OfficeLive (along with the
other 'Live' (formerly MSN) offerings is part of the 'use more MS stuff' side :)
