Office 2007 Pro Retail Box

H

history400

I just purchased the retail (academic) version of Office 2007 Pro, and I
can't get the tamper-proof box open. The ribbon at the top of the box got
torn off when I was trying to follow the picture directions of how to open
the box, and nothing else seems to want to open like the picture (on the
sticker) describes. Could anyone Please give me some ideas on how I can open
the box? I'd rather not destroy the whole box just to get it open. I do have
it pried open partially enough that I can reach the software but not the
printed material with the product key & owner's manual. I know this is an
incredibly dumb request. After you get thru laughing hysterically, any help
you could provide I would greatly appreciate!! :)
Thanks in advance!!

Make sure you remove all the plastic stick on seals from the sides of the
package. They can be hard to see. Once they are removed the box will
almost open by itself. Just put a thin sharp object (metal fingernail file
or knife) in the opening where the tab was.

(The printed opening instructions are on one of the clear tabs you need to
remove.)

I had already done that. I removed the clear tape which has the picture
diagram of how to open the the case by pulling the red tape. The red tape
didn't flip open the case; it just tore off at the base, and nothing else
seems to be able to pry it open either. (Thanks for not laughing at me!)

Think of a CD case. That blasted clear tape is ough to see. Get some GOOD
lighting and make sure you have all of it off. And the reason I'm not
laughing is because I've heard a lot of people have had trouble with the
case...and then I got a copy of Visio for my husband. I really understood
the frustration at that point. Once we got the case under bright lights, I
saw that I'd missed the side tape.

You already know that it pivots out, not flips open, right?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I finally found the lone piece of
clear plastic (at the very top of the package) where I had removed it from
one side but not completely from the other. It did finally open just as you
promised! Thanks again!!!

Thank you!! Between your post and JoAnn's, I was able to get this ^&*$#
open. *grin*
I really appreciate the help. It's incredible that MS can make it's paying
customers feel like criminals just trying to open our own legitimately paid
software. *grin*
What an absolute relief!!

:) I understand,,, but personally I'd rather destroy a $20 memorystick (and
it's packaging) than the $200 software (discounted price) that I was dealing
with. Before these suggestions came in, all I could imagine was this package
opening like a bag of potato chips with software and all flying in multiple
directions. Thank goodness for forums like this and great people ready to
step up with the answers to the idiotic questions, as well as the more
technical inquiries.
I've now got the full version activated, and everything is running smoothly.
Again, THANK YOU to all for your help!!!

I'd like to get my hands on the cellophane and tape that holds the person
together that created this monstrosity of a piece of packaging! Bet I can
open that person easier than the program's packaging.

H

history400

I agree completely! The only good thing about it is that you DO know without
a shadow of a doubt that it hasn't been tampered with when you get it! I'd
think even the criminals wouldn't want to deal with tearing apart this
baloney packaging apart, altering the software, and then putting the
packaging back the way it was originally. Just a guess on my part. Anyone
who would be willing to do all that for criminal reasons really needs to be
institutionalized ... or at least lectured strongly about better things to do
with their time than this! ;)
Thanks again to everyone for this help. (I've already passed along your
tips to anyone who will listen, to save them the same aggravation!)

General comment

Don't feel bad, because I had the same problem. However, I also found that
when I peeled the round plastic seal off from the top of the plastic case,
the information with the product key, etc., peeled off with that plastic, so
I placed it on the outside front of the package box so that it doesn't get
misplaced!

You WILL need that if you ever have to re-install the program suite!
