Office 2007 Professional Plus will not directly open WOrd document

When I go to open Word 2003 or 2007 Word documents from Outlook attachments
or double clicking on the documents on the desktop odr network drive Word
open to a blank page.

If I save the attachment to the desktop first, Open Word, and then open the
document - it will then open. With Word documents on the desktop or on
newtwork drive I have to open Word first then open the document.

My agancy has abot 500 PCs with the very same image - A Dell GX280 w 500MB
RAM. I can not just re-0mage them all. If there is a suggestion about a
registry edit ,script, or patch it would be very much appreciated.
