Office 2007 Ribbon

I find that the ribbon is taking up too much of my screen space at the top.
Is there a way of making icons etc smaller or even removing some of the
tools from the ribbon?

You can minimize the ribbon by double-clicking a tab or pressing
CTRL-F1.
Besides that, you can't do anything to reduce the size. The ribbon btw
doesn't give you less screen real estate than 2003 did. The bigger size
is subjective because the 2007 window uses less space on the bottom and
more space on the top compared to 2003.
