Office 2007 save problem

Ferdi

Hi,

We have Word 2000 documents. When we open a Word 2000 doc with Word 2007 and
we click on save then we get the following message:

"This file needs to be saved using the Word 6.0/95 text converter. If you
are not the author of this file or if the file is not from a trusted source,
using this converter may pose a security risk. Click Yes to save this file
only if you are sure it is from a trusted source."

The problem is that when we click "Yes" the alignment\layout of the document
changes...
Is there a way that when we click on "Save" Word 2007 saves the document in
the Word 2000 format?
It can me done with "Save as" but can it also with the "Save" option?

Kind regards,

Hi Ferdi,

In Word 2007 Options (Alt, T, O, S) you can set the default save format to be Word 97-2003 document to apply to new documents but if
the document you opened is seen by Word as something other than a .DOC file it will try to resave it to the format used. It sounds
like some of the files may have been saved in "Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95-RTF)" format which also used a .DOC extension or that the
documents may be damaged or that the language setting in it is not currently available in Word 2007. If the file was saved in that
format then using Save after edit will try to keep it in the same format as originally opened.

To test if Word is seeing your .doc files as RTF, in Word Options (Alt, T, O, A) Advanced section scroll down to the 'General'
section and turn on the 'Confirm file format conversion on open'.
