Office 2007 Service Pack 1

I have Win XP SP3 and having problems installing Office 2007 SP1 both through
Automatic Update and through standalone with the download full version file.
Have tried everything suggested through this forum: uninstalling office and
reinstalling, installing SP1 with the Office 2007 DVD/any other DVD in the
drive, reinstalling windows installer 3.1.

When installing Office 2007 SP1, the error message I get is, "the following
updates did not install: Office 2007 Serive Pack 1" with Automatic Update,
and "the installation of this package failed" when installing with standalone
file.

When viewing the Event log under the application tab, it says "Microsoft
Offuce Shared MUI (English) 2007 -- Installation failed." Under the system
tab it says "Windows failed to install the following update with error
0x80070663: 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1."

Any further suggestions on what I can do rather than the ones already
mentioned above?

In trying to update from Office Update, the error message received is pasted

I too have Windows SP3 and Office 2007. I also get the same error message
when trying to install Office SP1 and the error code 0X80070663. When I look
at the version of office I am using it says that I have SP1 with the latest
build number, but autmatic updates keeps trying to install it and then says
that it has failed. Have you found any solution yet. Microsoft just told me
to turnm off automatic updates, which wasn't helpful/

Sounds exactly the same as mine.

I am currently going through Microsoft Support to try and resolve it
The last thing they suggetsed was removing Office complteley an
installing it from their own link rather than the disc.

I have let it update with 15 upadtes before attempting to install SP
again, but I just get the same mesage that it has failed to install. O
my update history by clicking on the failed logo it opens a window tha
shows it is error code 0X80070663.

But when I look at 'resourses' in Word, 'about' it gives the lates
buid number SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000), ????

Yes, I did get it resolved and everything is fine now, with SP
installed and all the usual updates installing without a problem.

I visited Microsofts automatic update site and sent my problem to the
by email. They suggested a few things to do to try and resolve th
problem wthout success. Once their file is open they can't close i
until it is resolved. I kept telling them that it was not fixed and the
asked for my phone number. Then they rang me and asked me to agive the
two dates when I would be at home, each for 2 hours.

On the given date they rang and directed me to go onto a particula
website and grant them acccess to my PC. The pointed then whizzed aroun
the screen, while they deleted and looked at files. This didn't work o
the first occasion and I was refered to their specialist dept. Agai
they took control of my PC remotely for 2 hours and went through all o
the files deleting loads of them. Then they reinstalled Office 2007, an
hey presto, SP1 installed without a problem.

I then noticed that my spellcheck on Outlook Express had changed t
French and there was no English option. I contacted them again, wen
through the same procedure and they took control of my PC romotely, an
fixed the spellcheck. This was something that they were aware of as
problem with Office 2007.

Best of all, it was free. They provide free support for automati
update problems. Its a long winded process, but worth it in the lon
run......... just don't let them close the case until you are happy tha
your problems have been fixed.

I found Microsoft technical staff very knowledgable and very helpful
