Office 2007 sp1 install failure

After experiencing the "Outlook has stopped working" error in Vista after the
automated "check for a solution" advised me to upgrade Office 2007 to sp1, I
downloaded, saved it to the hard drive and tried to install it, but get the
"2007 microsoft office suite service pack 1 (sp1)has stopped working" error.
I ran across http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946691, downloaded & installed
the KB946691 update that looked like it might apply, rebooted and tried
again, but got the same error.

I'm not sure where sp1 puts its update logs. I searched for *.log and *.txt
and msi.* in all indexed/non-indexed/system/hidden and only found one file
with today's date that looks like it applies, and it was called
InstMSP_00001(0)_dw2_0.txt, which is shown below, but it looks like an error
report log, not an install log. If someone can point me to where the install
log resides, and it references registry keys, I could hopefully get this to
install.

Ok, here is an update. After spending some fruitless time with a clueless MS
Office support person, I looked in the windows event viewer and found a link
on how to turn on logging for the windows installer

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=223300

After doing that, the log starts out with: "Error 1335. The cabinet file
'PATCH_CAB' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.
This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a
problem with this package."

This occurred while the Office 2007 Enterprise edition (part of the Action
Pack subscription) DVD was in the drive and recognized/browsable. I have
pretty much ruled out a corrupt sp1 file by downloading it twice, and getting
the same error with each.

If anyone is interested, I can post the entire log or email it. I did email
it back to the MS Office support person, so we'll see what he/she has to say.
