Office 2007 SP2 available

The Office 2007 SP2 is now available. While I haven't had time to download
and install it, it looks like it will fix the issue we have been
experiencing with the Publisher 2007 navbars and other 'grouped' elements
not rendering in IE8 RTW.

Reference: Navigation bars and other content is missing from Publisher HTML
output in Internet Explorer 8: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969705

I am a bit time pressured right now, and it may be a few days before I have
time to test this, but if you have been experiencing problems with IE8 and
Publisher 2007 webs, you might want to install this and let the group know
if it works as advertised:

Reference: Description of 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)
and of Microsoft Office Language Pack 2007 SP2:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=953195
In Publisher among other things: "Fixes issues in print preview, in HTML
layout of grouped objects in Internet Explorer 8...".

Once again, if you do install this patch, please post your results. Thanks.

bsp2 = before service pack 2
asp2 = after service pack 2

Built a multi page test site yesterday using publisher 2007 and purposely
group items that I would not usually do (just for testing purposes).
Published the htm files to the server. (index_bsp2.htm) File size 115872
bytes

Did a windows update this morning (12 updates) that included SP2 for Office
2007.

Republished after installing updates. (index_asp2.htm) file size 104766
bytes.

Opened both sites using IE 7 NO difference bsp2 & asp2
Opened both sites using IE 8 BIG difference bsp2 not functional grouped
items not shown etc. asp2 OK

IE 8 looks and acts identical to IE 7 on the second build (asp2).

The sp2 UPGRADE did not affect the centering. The "</head><table border="0"
cellpadding="0" cellspacing="2"
width="760"align="center"><tr><td>" works as before.

I finally found the time to download and install the Office 2007 SP2. I also
had to download the Windows XP SP3, as the test partition that I used was at
SP2. Read the requirements for installing the Office SP.

Fair warning the full Office 2007 SP2 is 290 mb and the XP SP3 is 316 mb.
You may not need to download the entire patches. If you update as Spike did
using Windows Update, then by design only the parts of the patch that your
machine needs will be downloaded and installed. I do not use Windows Update
and thus had no choice but to download the full patches.

The usual caveat also applies. While I would never recommend to anyone that
they not install any security or service patch, when you install service
patches there can be unintended consequences. You might fix one thing only
to break something else. While I have not had any problems on my test
partition and Spike has not announced any problems, there have been a few
people who have posted about problems opening Pub 2007 files after
installing the Office 2007 SP2. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=953195
also lists some of the known issues along with some of the things this patch
fixes in Office 2007 applications.

As I suggested I have not had any problems with the SP2 and it did fix the
'grouping' issues in Pub 2007. It did not fix Pub 2003, so those users will
have to manually 'ungroup' their pages as previously discussed.
