Office 2007 trial killed Word 2003

A friend bought a new computer early last year with Windows Vista and
Microsoft Word 2003 - no other office products. However there was a
tempting icon on the desktop to download a 60 day trial of Office 2007 so
she finally succumbed and downloaded it. Eventually it stopped working but
now Word 2003 doesn't work either!
Also on the desktop is a shortcut to Documents, another shortcut to some
kind of document manager and many other icons. From at least one place (not
sure how she did it), she was able to open a document for me in Word 2003,
and 2007 documents open sometimes too. At other times a window pops up that
the software is reinstalling, or asks for an installation CD. The only CDs
I could find with the computer manuals were to reinstall Vista and for a
trail version of Office 2003, which is strange because she had a working
version of Word 2003.
Not only did Word 2003 stop working after 2007 expired - at the same time
her wireless connection stopped working also.
If Word 2003 can open some files, it must still be on her system. I tried
WINWORD.EXE under an Office 2003 folder but that didn't work. Where is it -
and what should I do to get it working and banish Office 2007?

If Office 2007 trial has expired you need to uninstall it

Does winword.exe exist in the 2003 folder?

Will uninstalling Office 2007 allow Word 2003 to work again?
Also, As I noted, I tried to run winword.exe to start Word 2003 but it
didn't open. It was one of many things I was trying at the time.

If the trial was installed as an upgrade, you will have to reinstall Word
2003.
