Office 2007 Ultimate Setup Error 1706 - Setup cannot find the required files

Hi

I tried to install Office 2007 Ultimate over an existing Office 2003
Professional installation, where I wanted to keep Word, Excel and
Access.

The error occurred during the first setup of Office 2007 Ultimate.
The dialog box claimed to "roll back" the installation, but I saw
afterwards that pretty much all files were installed in the Office2007
directory.

Next, I ran Setup again to do a repair/reinstall. This went without
errors. I started Access successfully and could register Office 2007.

However, when I started Outlook, I got an error message "Scripting is
not supported" and that I should run setup again and include this
feature. Finally Outlook 2007 was open. When I clicked "Send/Receive",
I got the message "Feature not implemented" (!)

Next I ran Setup again to change the installation. This time, Outlook
and all its subfolders were *unavailable* for selection.

At this point I uninstalled Office 2007. I also had to uninstall
Office 2003 and to reinstall it from ground up.

Does anyone know anything about this error? MSDN and googling did not
get me any results applying to Office 2007.

Thank you.
