Office 2007 Upgrade conflict from Terminal Server

Phil

Hi All,

I have an upgrade version install error on a box running Windows
Server 2003 OS. Dialog says conflict with Terminal Server (which has
not been activated yet). Call Microsoft.

This particular Office 07 Upgrade version is labelled "Service Desk
Edition" although I was suppose to be buying the full retail version,
MS P/N 269-12344 Seems like both Editions share the same P/N

I believe that the "Service Desk Edition" is for Internal Help Desks.

Any work-around other than returning the opened product? Is there a
special MS C/S department that handles these issues? Can it be
resold? Regards, Phil

Have you checked WU or MU today. There is a critical hotfix available for W2K3 Server and the issue with Terminal Server

It isn't a version for internal help desks. Here is how a Microsoft
Pre-Sales Representative explained it (found this elsewhere in ebay):

"The Microsoft representative put me no hold for a minute and checked
on the Service Desk Edition packaging, returning with the reason for
the different packaging was because this product was custom packaged
for retailers 'Service Desks' - to provide the same product in a
smaller peg hangable box, thus the label 'Service Desk Edition' - to be
a Retail product advertised to the public at service counters for
customers to upgrade with. If you look at the photos below, you can see
the plastic attached fold-out hanger on the back. Although the product
does state "Designed for installation from an authorized reseller." -
the Microsoft rep. confirmed that 'Designed for' means just that - it
is not a requirement, otherwise it would say 'Must be installed..."."

It is identical to the retail version apart from the packaging, and in
fact has the same part number I think.

Hi Phil,

To add to Harmony's reply. If the edition you have required activation, then it would likely be a retail Office 2007 product.
Retail Office 2007 products can't be used on Terminal Server/Services.

If you're not using Terminal Server, but you're trying to install Office on a 64 bit Windows server that has Terminal Services
running you may need to change some security settings there so that Office doesn't think you're trying to run through Terminal
Services. Only volume license editions/product key combinations are supported there in Office 2007.
