Office 2003/2007 on terminal server

Hi All,

I'm looking for a sollution for this problem:

Terminal Server (Win2003 X64) with Office 2003 and Office 2007
installed. Word, Excel and Powerpoint (Outlook only 2003). It's no
problem to run these 2 programs at the same Terminal Server. I can
use, for each program, both icons and things work fine.

What I want: Depending on an AD group I want to determine which
version starts by default. I've got 2 groups:
Off2007Users
Off2003Users

If someone is a member of the group Off2007Users, and he/she double
clicks on a Word document in the explorer (or a mail etc.) Word 2007
should open. If the same person is a member of the Off2003Users group,
Word 2003 should open. Obviously the same goes for Excel and
Powerpoint.

Can this be done by policies ? By registry keys ? Other options ?
Anyone any expirience with this problem ? Or ideas where I can get
more info ? So far searching the internet didn't gave me a good
answer.

Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Gerard

Hi Gerard,

The basic behavior of the Office core apps are that the last used one controls the file extensions related to the apps.

I haven't specifically tested on a Terminal Server installation for that scenario and while Microsoft has always recommended not
mixing the versions, you may want to try the registry settings in this article to see if they help.

Tanks Bob,

I know that Article. Untill now no luck with finding the answer. I'm
starting to believe that this isn't possible, or nobody knows which
registry keys/policies should be used.

I keep on looking :)

Cheers,
Gerard
