Office 2007 very slow

I just got office 2007. I have an XP machine and it takes forever to
open a document.

Is this a known thing? I have deleted and re-installed this software a
few times now. Any fix out there?

If you have anti-virus software installed, it does take a little longer to
load as it checks any document you are opening for viruses before opening.

is there any way to disable the virus scan in office? I use the fre
version of AVG.

I don't know as I haven't tried to disable it. I use the same free AVG
software and I just count it as extra protection for me, even though it does
take a little longer than it used to.
