Office 2007

I've been using Office 1997. I've placed on my documents on a CD. I plan on
deleting Office 1997 from my computer and installing Office 2007 which I just
purchased today. Will my CD documents be automatically reformatted so that I
can use them in 2007? Thanks for any help I can receive.--

Word 2007 can open and save documents in Word 97/2003 format.

While it is a good idea to back up your documents to a CD, do not then try
and open them directly from the CD. You will also note that if you later
need to copy them from the CD back to the hard drive, the Read Only
attribute for the files will have been set. By accessing the File
Properties in Windows Explorer, you can remove that attribute.

Because Word cannot work with documents on a CD. You need to copy them to
your new HD in order to use them.

Short answer: they won't work right.

If for some reason you're reformatting your hard drive (or moving to a
different computer), it would be better to back up onto a drive of
some sort rather than a CD; but if you're simply replacing old Office
with new Office, you can just install it (it should ask you whether
you want to keep the old one, or replace it).

If you install 2007 with the option set to 'upgrade' the existing Word
version, your documents on the hard drive will be unaffected and most of
your personalisations will be retained.
