Office 2007

I am unable to open office 2007 documents in older versions. Is there
anything I can do?

Were these created with the beta? A trial? Do you still have Office 2007 installed? Office 2007 formats can be opened in Office 2003 only with a conversion utility - any earlier version you are out of luck.

I am sure this is me being daft - but why would I buy Office 2007 if no-one
else can read my documents until they also get it? Many large companies are
still running older versions than Office 2003, and even those that have 2003
are not going to quickly install "conversion" software just to read files
form external organisations!!

There is an option to save files in the 97-2003 format that these companies should be using when corresponding with non-Office 2007 users.

Read the entire page before downloading - it is especially important that you install all updates to Office PRIOR to installing this converter.

conversion utility - any earlier version you are out of luck.

Is this true if the Office 2007 files are saved in RTF?

M

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

Don't know - I use the compatibility mode for saving files.

Office 2007 files are saved as docx, pptx etc. The x indicates integration
with the xml format. You can select the usual .doc, .ppt formats which is
compatible with the older office programs. But rtf is not the default format
office 2007 saves files as.
