office 2007

I need a reality check

I just downloaded office 2007. The first email I received from MS was an
invitation to downlaod a "conversion kit" so that those with whom I
correspond can read my stuff.

Is Gates crazy? That his job to make sure new stuff is backwards compatible
with old stuff!!!!!!!! How presumptuous can one get??!!

I'm uninstalling this stuff before I even use it for the first time --
Thanks,

Tom

You don't need the compatibility pack. Office 2007 can save in Office 2003
(and earlier) format. The compatibility pack would be for people who don't
have Office 2007 who--for whatever reason--want to be able to open/save
files in Office 2007 format.

Thanks Herb. I guess I just hit the "frustration buffer overload" point. I'm
migrating from XP and it's very difficult to get things to run well. I used
the easy transfer program - but that just messed up a bunch of things --
especially printing.

I still can't get the vista machine to print over a network. My
investigation on the web seems to confirm that no one else has cracked the
code of how to print from a vista OS machine to a printer hooked up to a PC
running XP. Apparently, XP and vista do play well together.

Again, thanks for your help on the previous. I think I've finally learned my
lesson -- next to to buy -- it's gonna be apple.

Tom
