Office 2008 12.1.7 Updater

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

AutoUpdate ran and downloaded Office 2008 12.1.7 Updater. However, I cannot get this to run. Both my Macintosh HD and (of course) my Time Machine disk, are unavailable, saying, "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.7 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

I'm assuming this is because I installed the Entourage EWS Beta. Can someone confirm this? Can someone let me know what the 12.1.7 Updater fixes so that I can determine whether it is important enough that I should uninstall EWS Beta? Office 2008 is working fine right now. Thanks. -steve

Same here I have no beta installed, at all I even tried a manual download; same issue.

I see my reported version 12.1.4, so I downloaded 12.1.5 thinking that was cause, nope same message..

Good grief! Here we go again!!!

I'm still trying to get ANY of thenupdates since my 12.0.0 install to take! (per my Good Grief! post just today)

Microsoft provides updates to issues it is aware of and reasonably expects users to update to the latest. But when the updaters have been so completely unreliable for much of the installed base since the release of Office 2008, this should surely be recognized as an issue in and of itself, yes?

(sigh)

AFAIK the 12.1.7 update addresses a Security issue with Excel. However, it's
a combo updater so it also includes everything from 12.0.1 through 12.1.5 -
that's why it's so huge. And yes, it *is* incompatible with the EWS Beta.

Before you install this update, make sure that the Microsoft Office 2008
for Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0) is installed on your computer.
</quote>

It appears that it includes the 12.1.5 updater, but not the 12.1.0 SP1. I
believe this is due to the fact that some CDs come with 12.0.0 installed
where the newer ones come with 12.1.0 installed.

I don't understand all the details of these posts but I have the same problem
trying to install the 12.1.7 update - gives me the same message as described
earlier. Is there anything one can actually do to install this update? or
should I just forget about it?

cheers
Damien

Thanks for the replies. I am a recent MAC convert and thought I did something wrong when I got "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.7 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

Is there a fix or do we just wait? Thanks -Bob

You've added your problem onto another user's thread and it's getting
confusing. I don't know if you are quoting your problem or the original OP.

You can't update the version on Time Machine!

If you get this error, see this page.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/not_found.html>

If you continue to have problems, please start your own thread with exact
details of your problem and what you have tried.
