Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I downloaded the trial version of 2008. It said it was installed successfully but when I try to open word, excel, or powerpoint it says it did not install correctly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this program several times. Can anyone help. I am new to Mac and am not sure of all the fixes to this situation.

1) Did you have any problems activating (entering the product key)?

2) Did you restart after installing?

3) Have you tried in a new User?

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office in this
new User.

4) What version of Leopard? Look under the Apple in the Menu bar.

5) Check the Microsoft Component Plugin and tell me what version it is.

"/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework"

Screenshots really help. If you can post the errors that could help us know
what issues you are having.

You can post a screenshot link using a service like ImageShack. ImageShack
is an easy-to-use free media hosting service. It can be used to upload
images. Registration is not required in order to upload files.

How To Post Screen Shots To Newsgroups

1. On your keyboard, press Command-Shift-4.
2. On your keyboard, press the space bar.
3. Click the window you want. A picture file will appear on the desktop.
4. Go to http://imageshack.us/.
5. Click Browse, then navigate to and select the picture file.
6. Click "host it!".
7. Paste the "Show image to friends" URL in a newsgroup message.

If you don't know how to take a screenshot on your Mac, search in Apple
Help under Help in the Menu bar when you are in the Finder.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:

1) Did you have any problems activating (entering the product key)? I have tried to activate the trial but whenever I try to get the access code it will not let me, and trying to activate it automatically it just goes to the website and has a little spinning circle.

2) Did you restart after installing? Yes, after each time I tried to reinstall

3) Have you tried in a new User? No, but even installing it under safe mode I get the same message.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office in this
new User.

4) What version of Leopard? Look under the Apple in the Menu bar. I am not sure if it is a leopard, it says it is Mac OS X version 10.5.8

5) Check the Microsoft Component Plugin and tell me what version it is. It tells me there is no default app to open it, and none of my microsoft apps will work to find out what it says.

You don't open it. You select and get the version number that shows in the
next column or do a Get Info on the file.

The microsoft component plug in is version 12.2.1

You are completely updated. The Microsoft Component Plugin always shows the
latest update. Not all applications are updated each time and if you check
all the applications will have 12.2.0 as their version info.

This is good.

One last test. Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is
system wide or if it’s your User’s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

Do you still get the error? If yes, then contact me off list and send a
screenshot of the error. I'll send this on to the team that is investigating
the issues with the trial versions.
