Office 2010 Help System....Revert to Older-Style Help?

G

My wife recently installed Office 2010 Home & Student Version for her
school projects. We noticed the Office 2010 Help System is completely
different from older Office Help System versions, in that when you
click Help or press F1, Office connects with Office.com on the
Internet, instead of opening up local help files on our computer.

Our problem with this new Help behaviors is that we don't want to have
to search Office.com's huge website for answers. We miss the older
Help system where you could search for keywords and answers on your
own computer, without having to browse the internet.

I looked at Options in Office 2010, but could not find any references
to Help System behavior.

Does anyone know if a user can revert Office 2010 Help back to the
older style, non-web-based Help?

Thanks!

You might look at the download section of Microsoft, starting

Mary,

I downloaded and read the Microsoft support docs. They were sort of
helpful, but not what I feel I need. I really wish there were a way
to have the older style searchable-index type of help files on my own
hard drive. It is just too much trying poke around thru thousands of
KB articles, trying to find a simple answer to my questions about
Office 2010.

Might you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Anyone else have an idea where to turn to for real, searchable help
files??

I'm so frustrated with Office 2010, I'm seriously considering
reverting to Open Office.Org's office software suite! At least it
includes REAL help files!

Toggle Online and Offline Help for Windows 7 and Office 2010

May 6, 2010 | Filed under Microsoft Office, Windows 7

In Windows 7, you can get documented help by clicking the Orb button and
then select Help and Support which is located at the bottom right. A
Windows Help and Support window will open allowing you to search for
help topics. As for Microsoft Office 2010, clicking the question mark
icon at the top right will also open a Help window specially for the
particular office application.

If you didn’t know, there are two help methods which is the online and
offline. The offline help is something like searching through help file
that is saved locally onto your hard drive. This is much faster but can
be outdated. To get latest help topics, you can toggle searching in
Online Help which requires an active internet connection but it is
slightly slower for users with slow connection since the information is
pulled from Microsoft knowledge base servers.

By default Offline Help is selected and you can toggle to Online Help by
clicking the Offline Help text at the bottom right of Windows Help and
Support. Select Get online Help and you can start searching. As for
Microsoft Office, it is very similar to Windows 7. At the bottom right
of the Help window where it says Offline, click once and select Show
content frmo Office.com.
