Office 2k3 & Visio 2k3...combine installation point

R

Rob

I was browsing Microsoft's site a few months ago, and found an article that said one could "combine Office & Visio 2003 installation points" to save space in an admin install point on a server. You had to rename a few files but most of the "main" files were the same and could be combined to install many office products from one directory. I can't seem to find it again. Can someone either help me on this or help find the article again.

Thanks again,

Hi Rob,

Hmmm. You're talking about the actual Visio 2003 Pro product
rather than the Office 2003 addons of the Visio 2003 Viewer or
Ifilter? If so, I'm wondering if you may be recalling the option
to create a compressed Office distribution image on a custom CD
and/or pulling from more than one Office product Admin point
(each created with Setup /A using a volume/enterprise license from
each Office product) by 'chaining' as described in the Office
Resource Kit? http://microsoft.com/office/ork

While you could, possibly create an overlapping admin point
of the two products there would not be too much gain from the
shared files that each uses and you could end up in a scenario
where you couldn't add updates to the Admin point because the
update check wouldn't recognize the Admin point as what it was
looking for with specific file versions, for example.
