Office 95 and 2000 upgrade

Scott McMillin

I just hooked up my new Dell with Windows XP for Home. I
want to put MSFT Office Professional on this hard drive
and I have the original CD's for Office 95 and Office Pro
upgrade for 2000. Do I have to load all these CD's and
then purchase the upgrade for XP or can I simply download
Office Pro from this site referencing my serial numbers
for the CD's I own?

No, you do not have to load your Office 95 or 2000 on to your new PC, but
you will have to purchase the Upgrade Version of Office XP (or 2003).

When you are ready to install your new version of Office, have the CDs for
Office 2000 available. When you begin installing the new version of Office,
it will search the hard drive of your computer, looking for a "qualifying
product". When it does not find one, you will see a message asking you to
tell Office where the qualifying product is located. At that point, remove
the CD for the new version of Office and insert the CD for Office 2000 -
then select the CD-ROM drive as the location of the qualifying product.
Re-insert the CD for the new version of office and your installation will
continue just fine.

Please note, also, that the End User License Agreement requires that you
keep your qualifying product CDs with the new version of Office.
