Have repeatedly tried to get Office 97 to install and run in Windows XP Media
Center environment to no avail. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Error message:"This application must be installed to run. Please run Setup
from the location where you originally installed the application."

Did you copy some Office 97 files from one hard drive to another?
Or maybe you took your old hard drive with Office 97 installed,
and stuck the drive into your new computer as a slave drive, and
you are trying to run Office 97 from the slave drive? Neither of
the above will work. You need to install Office 97 from the
original CD onto your new computer.

Nope, did not do that--I installed from the disk to this computer. Thought
it was the updates to Office 97, but applied those and still got the same
error message. I'm really perplexed, as PowerPoint and Outlook work, but
none of the other applications, and I really need Word and Excel.

Did you install Office 97 while logged into Windows as a user
without administrator privileges? Did you install from one user
login, but are trying to run from a different user login? Did
you get any error messages during installation?

Ended up just copying the .exe files for Word and Excel (vice
installing--note this means I did exactly what the error message said not to
do) and now both applications seem to work for some strange reason.
