Office 97 on Windows XP PC

D

Don

I am installing Office 97 on a new PC that has Windows XP
as its operating system. The installation process goes
without incident, however after it's finished and when I
log on as a user (not as someone with admin rights), I
cannot print anything from Office. Each time I try, I
get the typical Microsoft error that goes something
like, "Microsoft has detected a problem.....Send Error
Report - Don't Send". Regardless of what I do, Office
will then shut down and nothing prints.
I can print fine when logged on as someone with Admin
rights.

Will Office 97 even run on an XP operating system or is
this another "bug" in Microsoft's software.

Thanx.

Office 97 runs fine on Windows XP. Log in (or run as) admin and make sure
you have your printer installed under that user account.

And what kind of "bug" would Microsoft need to fix for software that is from
1996 to run under an OS released several years later? Have you tried
running some Mac OS 9 (or earlier) programs under OS X? Have you also
complained to Apple about their incompatibilities?

Actually, I have just discovered that Word 2000 does not
run correctly when installed on a Windows XP computer.
It runs fine when anyone with admin rights is logged on,
but when a typical user logs on and tries to print from
Word 2000, the error message (see my original post)
appears and then Word closes.

I do not use MACs here so I wouldn't know if there's a
compatibility issue or not. Also, you asked about "bugs"
that Microsoft should address from earlier releases of
their software running on current operating systems. I
have run into several...too many to mention here.
