How can I install Office 97 on a computer with Windows7?

I tried to install Office 97 on my Windows-7 machine, but keep getting error
messages and programs abruptly closing (e.g., when I try to print a Word
document). Is there a way to get Office 97 successfully installed on this
machine? I need to generate documents and send them to people whose latest
version of Office is 97.

Hardly likely, so what wrong with using eg Office 2003 and saving docs in
the old format?

All versions of Office since 97 can save in the 97-2003 file format either
as a Save As or by setting it as a default. I routinely interchange files
saved with Office 2007 with Office 97 on one of my laptops that has Win XP &
97 (like a simple mail merge is a lot easier in 97 than in 2003 in my
opinion.)

There are a lot of incompatibilities apparently between 97 and Win 7 (as
there is in Vista.) While I have 97 Pro installed onto one Vista Home
Premium machine it doesn't always work 100%. I have had the install fail on
two other Vista machines.

Now, if you have one of the higher end versions of Win 7, you should have
access to the XP compatibility system. If so have you tried installing that
way?
