Office 97 Upgrade

[Tagary]

I have upgrade ver. of 97 and want to install it on a new
system. This system is XP and has word 2000 installed.
The upgrade does not recognize this as a qualifying
product. Is there a work around? Thanks.

Of course Office 97 does not recognize Office 2000 as a qualifying
product, because a QP must be OLDER than the version you're upgrading

on 2 PCs - the last one to upgrade Word 2000 as Tagary has tried - that
worked although at the time the PC was running Windows ME. However the suite
remained functioning after i upgraded the whole PC to XP and then XP (SP2).

My current problem is a new PC running XP(SP2) and Works 8. The Office 97
upgrade disk won't recognise Works 8 as a qualifying product, even though
Microsoft say ALL versions of Works are suitable.

So despite what garfield-n-odie says (which seems perfectly logical) i've
done this before but can't work out a way to do it again.

Ant suggestions?

Hi Brian,

I'm not quite clear on the conflict. Word 2000 is
newer than Word/Office97 and is a qualifying product.
The information in the KB article is what was written
on the Office 97 product box. Works versions older
than Office 97 were recognized, unfortunately new ones
aren't. While Office 97 was still in support by MS
they did offer a workaround for using newer versions
of MS Works, but support for Office 97 has ended.

The version of Windows didn't matter until Office 2003,
which cannot run on Windows NT, 95/98/SE/ME.
