There seem to be lots of seperate entries for this problem so I thought I
would post the following "chat" with HP for information. The workaround is
about half way through. The resolution? Who knows when? Probably a Lexmark
printer!!!

Me: Why do my Office 2007 applications crash when my Photosmart C4280 is
selected as the default printer?
[An agent will be with you shortly.]
[You are now chatting with Clayton .]
Clayton : Hello.
Clayton : Welcome to HP Total Care for All-in-One. My name is Clayton.
Please give me a few moments while I review your problem description details.
Clayton : Thank you for being online.
Me: It's a simple question and there are lots of people out there with the
same problem.
Clayton : Let me explain.
Me: Please do
Clayton : The above issue may occur due to incompatibility between printer
driver and Microsoft Office 2007 application. However HP is working on this.
And also we have a alternate solution to avoid .
Clayton : Could you please let me know how the All-in-One is connected to
PC(USB or Ethernet).
Me: USB
Clayton : What is the version (Windows 98/Me/XP/Vista) of your Operating
System?
Me: Windows XP Home Edition fully up to date, as is the Office 2007,
according to Microsoft Update.
Clayton : Thank you for the information.
Clayton : Let us follow the below steps.
Clayton : In the computer click on Start >> Click on Control panel >> Click
on Printers and Faxes.
Clayton : Let me know the printer icon which is check marked.
Me: Microsoft XPS Document Writer. I changed to this as the default because
Office 2007 applications were crashing with the Photosmart set to default.
Clayton : You already did the alternate solution to avoid the crash.
Clayton : I appreciate your efforts.
Me: Yes your right but I only have one printer and I can't work like this
for long! When will HP have a fix?
Clayton : HP will release a patch to resolve the issue soon.
Me: So I read on the web dated 2007. If you can't give a better date then I
can only move to a non HP printer and advise anyone else who asks NOT to go
HP Photosmart if they have WXP & Office 2007
Clayton : HP is working on it, HP will release the patch file to resolve the
Office 2007 patch soon.
Me: Fine. Will this be included in the HP update downloads?
Clayton : Yes.
Clayton : I apologize the inconvenience caused.
Me: Thank you. I'll post this on the MS User Group web site and await the
update
Clayton : Sure.
Clayton : It has been my pleasure talking to you. However, have I addressed
all your queries/questions? Moreover, is there anything else I may assist you
with?
Me: No, that's all for now.
Clayton : Thank you for contacting HP Total Care Real-Time chat support. If
you need further assistance, please contact us again at:
