Office Assistant error message

For some reason I am getting the error message "The
office assistant requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later.
This product is available in the office system pack"
I have deleted and reinstalled the entire office XP
program, and I have also downloaded the agent core
components from the Microsoft website. If I try to
install it the user agreement just falshes on the screen
but disappears immediately Anyone have any ideas about
what is going on?

I have tried the options mentioned in the Microsoft
knowledge base article 301990 and these do NOT fix the
problem, which is the reason I am asking for additional
options
