Office Assistant is not showing help details

I was using Excel and ran into a problem with a formula.
I asked the question of Office Assistant and was rewarded with a couple of
topics.
When I click on a topic the help side-pane does not open and detailed help
never appears.
I repeated the request using the toolbar search rather than the assistant -
same.
Just as a check I tried other Office products all appear the same.
Does anyone know what is wrong?

I have already tried repairing my installation and that didn't fix it either.
My Office installation is fully service packed and patched from the update
site.
Version: Office XP Professional

Not sure if I was clear explaining my problem...
When clicking on a topic in the help toolbar or wizard the help window (with
the three tabs you describe) does not open at all. The link changes colour to
"visited" but I cannot get detailed help of any kind - only topic suggestions.

Hope this clarifies it a little better.
