Office Beta 7

BeauBeau

I want my money back. Paid $7 bucks shipping and handling for the latest and
greatest Office and the CD is useless and I can't find anyone, anywhere to
help. This is what happens when a business becomes a monopoly - they hold
you hostage. What does Apple have to offer? I need to find out.

I'll help you. Apple has lots of Ipods and lots of expensive MACS. They
are nifty little machines. The Ipods are quite the Monopoly if you think
about it. The MACS are nice little machines but they still do not run
anywhere near the amount of Software Applications a Windows based PC does.

First of all, it's a *beta*. This means there are no guarantees. You could
have downloaded it for free and saved $7. And since we have no idea what
your questions might be, then you definitely wasted $7.

Never checked out an Apple since the very early days when it was the system
of choice for schools in the mid-Atlantic area.
All I really want is to download and run Office 7. I have a brand new Dell
E510 with top power and memory. I'm running Office 2003. Can't figure out
why the Office 7 CD quits a couple of minutes into the download! I know they
don't support Betas, but you can't even return the CDs for a refund!! What
help is available?

Simple question: why won't it download anything from the CD. I tried Office
Professional, Visio and Project. I get the same error message. "Office
download encountered an error and failed to install."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a smart alec, I'm frustrated. I couldn't even
download it!

What is the speed of your Internet connection? If you have a high speed
connection you really should just download it. That process really seems to
work quite well.

There wasn't a charge for the CDs, only for shipping.

FWIW, the beta (test only) version of Office is 2007 (v12).
Office v7 was Office 95. The current beta version of Internet Explorer is v7.

You haven't mentioned the steps you're using to install it on Windows XP and what the exact message you're getting is. You may want
to use Start=>Run and type
%temp%
to locate the most recent log file [setup.exe(nnnnn).log] and look through the log file to see if it has additional details on what
is happening.

You said, "I have a brand new Dell E510 with top power and memory. I'm
running Office 2003." Is this a trial version of Office 2003?

And are you willing to trash Office 2003 for a beta product? If you read
many of the posts here, that is what is happening to many people. Office
2007 should NOT be placed on any production machine. Maybe the installation
problem has saved you from a worse disaster.
