Office Beta

What is a "Beta" program? I have received a couple of notifictions saying
"....Beta" is now available e.g. Office 2007 Beta; also Internet Explorer and
Windows Media Player. Should I download these programs or not?

Beta software means they are still in the testing phase. I have the beta for
WMP11 and IE7 on my system now. IE7 takes a little getting used to but so
far, it's okay. Husband had it at work but uninstalled it because it doesn't
work with his fingerprint reader that he uses.

Office 2007 is a different critter. I won't run it on my computer because
(1) I can't risk messing with the stability of my system and (2) my system
is too old to run it. More the first reason than the second. There are far
too many bugs in it. Husband just allowed me to download it on his computer
Thursday night. He said he didn't care if we had to reformat it - he only
uses it for games. (I am on the board for a non-profit group - I need my
'puter.)

Thank you. I had a vague idea that was it; but like you, I think I will
leave Beta programs alone until they come out as "new" versions in full.
Thanks again.
