Office button in Office 2007 does not open drop down menu

The button turns yellow when you hover over it and when you click on it it
turns brown, but the drop down menu never comes up. Windows and Excel both
have this problem. Once you click on button 3 times it shuts down the app. I
just did an upgrade from 2003 to 2007. I have done many of these upgrades and
this is the first I have come across this problem. I have searched all over
and seen that many other people have come across same issue, but no solution
has been found. I have uninstalled reinstalled. Ran diagnostics on Office.
Repaired Office . Opened word/excel in safe mode. Uninstalled remote tools.
Reset IE 7. I have tried every thing that has been posted. Does any one have
another suggestion? Thank you.

If you refer to the large 'orb' Btn at the top left of the office Component
you have to click it, there is no drop down menu, likewise the Vista Btn

Could be a damaged Word data key in the Windows registry. Close
Word 2007, start regedit, and rename the
"\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data"
key. Word 2007 will create a new Data key using the factory
default settings when you restart the program. If this fixes the
problem, great... but you might have to re-select some of your
Word Options settings. If it doesn't, you can close Word 2007,
go back into regedit, delete the newly created Word data key, and
rename the old key back to its original name to retrieve your old
Word Options settings.
