Office drop down open and save as dialog boxes

When I click on the menu bar to open a file in Word it
brings up the open dialog box but when I click the drop
down arrow to browse to another folder my computer locks
up.

I have the same problem sith the save as dialog box. Is
this a Windows Issue or an Office issue? I checked other
programs like photoshop and the dialog boxes seem to work.
