Office Error Msg. then Closes Program

Recently started with problem of hourglass popping on
screen about every 5-6 seconds. Then MS Office error
msg. and program closes without any saves. Sent msg to
MS. System referred me to SR1 update. Downloaded,
installed. Same Problem!! Download instructed to
uninstall (Office 2000 Professional) and reinstall from
CD. Same problem!
Please help. Where to, what now?

By the way no problem with MS Office 2000 for 3+
yrs.working on Windows 98. New HP Computer with XP
system. Problem starts about 6 months into use. Any
relationship problem.

Computer: HP Pavilion 05, Pent. 4, CPU 2.00 GHz, 1993
MHz, Windows XP Home Edition, 256 MB Ram, Stand alone
personal computer, 14.79 GB storage used and 22.46 GB
free.

Please respond ASAP. Work at a standstill.
