Office file cannot be opened as if someone else is using it!

I bought a new PC with Windows 2000 Pro OS. I copied all
the office files (excel, words etc...) from my old pc
into the new pc. However, when I try to open these files,
a message popped out saying that the file is currently in
use, but actually nobody is opening the file. How can I
make this message disappear?
