Hi Everette,
You didn't mention the version of Office you're using but in File=>Open choosing a 'view' option from the menu bar at the top should
stick unless it's in a corporate environment where the settings are controlled or, in some cases if your Windows Explorer options
are set to not allow individual windows to be set differently.

When the File Open selection window opens it is always set to 'list' in some
sort order I do not wish to have. How do I make the default 'details'? >>
