I purchase office Home and Student 2007. According to the instructions it
should start-up as soon as you place it into the drive.

It did nothing. Will it work with XP?

Open it manually and click on the setup file.

You will need to either turn on AutoPlay on the drive it is inserted into or
double click on My Computer and go to the CD/DVD drive that the disk is in
and start it from there.

Office 2007 will install on systems that are running Windows XP as long it
has SP 2 or later installed as the operating system. If you have only have
SP1 or no XP service pack installed, it won't install but will give an error
message.
