I followed your suggestion, to no avail. I deleted OPA12.dat as outlined
by Microsoft, then ran activation on both Office Home & Student, as well
as Publisher 2007 (this version of office doesn't have it), then tried to
download a theme for Word. I got a message saying "This computer failed
Validation.", even though the validation was accepted when performed. The
message said that both Office Home & Student and Publisher completed
validation, but that "2007 Microsoft Office system: Validation Failed"
and that "This is a strong indication that the Office product installed
is not genuine."
Both products were purchased at BestBuy, and I have the receipts to
prove it. What would you suggest at this point?
in message You might have a corrupt license file. Try deleting the OPA12.DAT file
as described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=919895 "How to
troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to activate
a 2007 Office product", and then activate the software again.

The templates that I can't download (for both Word and Excel) all are
from the Microsoft web site. When the site attempts to validate the
software, I'm told that the software (Office Home and Student 2007)
completed validation. Then it tells me that no valid Office key was
detected, and that it's a strong indication that the product installed
is not genuine.
The key I entered when I installed the software was accepted, and the
product was purchased from BestBuy in a new, sealed plastic box.
I have nno idea what else I can do to convince them that I don't have
pirated software.
Can you give us an example of one of the templates that causes this
for you? (preferably also a link to it)
What is the exact text of the message you're receiving that asks for
the key?

I have already activated my copy of Office. This is wht I don't
understand why I'm asked for the Product Key again.
Jeff
You shouldn't be asked for a product key when downloading templates.
(That's the one on the inside of the CD.) I wonder if it's asking
you to activate? (You still have to activate the software after you
install it.) Try opening Word and going to Office Button | Word
Options | Resources | Activate. If you use the web activation, it
will give you an activation code to type in (or maybe it's inserted
automatically, I can't remember). If you use the phone activation, a
person will give you an activation code to input. Either way, you
should then be able to download templates without being prompted for
a code/key.

I'm entering the key on the inside of the plastic box the software
came in. It's the same key I entered to register the software.
Jeff
The key is to thwart software piracy. Are you entering the correct
key? It is not the one on your tower.

How to ask a question
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375
I bought a copy of Office and when I try to download templates,
I'm asked
for the 25 character key. When I type it in I'm told the key is
incorrect.
Two questions: Why do they want the key, and what do I do now?
