Office Home/Student edition 2007--contact list?

I have had Office 97 on my computer up until I got Vista. I've been told
Office 97 is not compatible with Vista...is that true? I like using
Microsoft Outlook for my contact list and printing mailing labels with it.
Is there anyway to maintain a contact list and print mailing lables without
Outlook which doesn't come with the home/student edition?

AFAIK you can use other data sources such as Excel workbooks to store your
label data.....
