Office Install corrupts IE's Java runtime

I wanted to install Office S&T 2003 on two similar Toshiba notebooks. One
system works fine, the other system has a problem in IE6 when loading
certain web pages:

Runtime error (In a small dialog box) with yes/no boxes for debugging

I performed System Restore to roll back the Office Install and the IE
problem was cured. Installing Office a second time caused the IE Java
problem to return. Second System Restore and problem in gone again.

On problem system, About IE6 reports:
Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030320-1720
Updates:; SP1;Q810847; Q813951; Q330994; Q824145

According to the Windows Update site, my system is fully up to date
(although the other system has a longer list of updates in IE6 About)

Is this a known problem? Any idea if this is a MS problem or a Toshiba one?
This is a brand new system.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Mike
