Office Install Error

James Odom

I was trying to open a office document the other day and it would not let me
open it. I contacted DELL and they helped me uninstall Office the the usual
was we had to get a program from MS web site to do this. Now it will not
reinstall it keeps saying error on install and then closes but does nto give
any error code. Dell said we exausted all basic support and told me to call
MS for like $50.00. I would like to know if anyone on here has every had this
problem or know of a fix.

Windows XP and this is on a Dell Latitude Laptop.

Define "would not let me open it"? What happened EXACTLY when you tried?
Secondly see my sig for pertinent information that you need to give us, and
thirdly, a bit of advice. Always come here first before asking Dell. Most
vendor support people work to a script, and their usual reply to ANY problem
is "Re-install". Which normally is the LAST thing you try, not the first.

Eh? I've never seen THAT before.

Do a disk cleanup, delete all the temp files, re-boot and try again.
Presumably you have original media, (CD or DVD) that you are installing
from?

Not enough info to answer;
Version of Office?
'A program from MS site'?
'Would no let me open' - doesnt describe anything
Open, how?
In any case MS doesnt supply support for OEM software

I am Using Windows XP with SP3 (I belive it has all updates) I am trying to
install Office Basic 2007.

When I tried to open a office document you could click on the document and a
screen would flash saying (installing something) i could never read it very
good as it would only flash quickley. So i tried to do the uninstall/install
to try a repair from control panel/add remove and it would never open a
window to allow me to do anything.

Then I contacted dell and nthey pointed me to a MS Program that uninstalled
it but now when i load the CD in the computer to install the program it comes
up and i enter the KEY # then it comes up with a window saying installing
then about 1/4 was through it says "Error occured and can not install"

I though something might be wrong with disk so i downloaded a sample virson
from MS and it did the samething.
