I just brought a laptop (vista capable) with XP media and installed office XP
pro 2002. If I upgrade to vista home premium (using a 32 bit package) do I
need to uninstall office first?

I believe you will find only Office 2003 and above is fully compatible with
Vista, so you may wish to rethink.
