Hi folks,
I recently decided I could use Outlook to maintain my schedule on a
computer that already has most of Office 2000 installed. But when I
tried to Change the installation, I got the most illogical errors.
(It didn't matter if I started from d:\setup.exe or from Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs..)
First 1321, which told me that it didn't have the rights to modify the
CD (duh) files (this happenned over and over as I clicked ignore with
different files).
Then 1311, that it couldn't find office1.cab, which I have a screen
capture to prove it's where it says it's looking.
1321 only happens if I try to Change the installation, 1311 still
won't let me install even after I uninstalled Office first. Which is
really maddening since now I can't use any Office products.
The only thing that's changed lately is that I've used Windows Update
with alarming frequency because of the recent worm and virus parade.
So I'm really truly up to date. Plus I checked again this morning.
The system is Windows 2000, and it's Office 2000 Pro. I've searched
the support.microsoft.com site, and came up empty. The only message
that relates is:
232143: Various Error Messages When MSI File Creates and Modifies
Files and Registry Keys. This article was previously published under
Q232143.
....which tells me that it *should* act in this way.
I also am aware that I must be an admin when I do this. I tried with
both the admin-enabled account and the actual "administrator" account.
Same thing.
I think it's confused about the "to's and from's." But how to fix it?
A little Google Group search showed that this is a fairly common
problem in various guises, and has plagued several versions of Windows
starting at 98. But I was unable to find a solution.
