office is too large software regarding size

R

RITESH AGRAWAL

microsoft office is a too large software regarding size. the developers of
this software should try to reduce the size of this as this should save the
important disc space

Hard drives are cheap these days. Chances are you have files like pictures,
MP3's, etc that aren't necessary. I'd much rather use my hard drive space
for programs and keep the extraneous stuff on a CD.

I've got so many gigs available on both my home and office pc that I will
never be able to fill them up.

I can't say that but I have two hard drives with a total of 60GB. I could
use a bit more space on my C drive but I still have space available after 6
yrs of using this system.

Not bad! I recently had to add a 400 GB drive to my already existing 250
GB one...I also switched my tablet 40 GB with a 100 GB one.
Vista btw is a hard drive space killer (Office 2007 is nothing compared
to it). Vista Ultimate (the got it all edition which I'd want for my
tablet and desktop) asks for 15 GB...

15GB??? The system that I have came standard with a 10GB 4800 RPM hard
drive. I paid extra for a 20GB 7200 RPM. I am *so* glad I did. That was in
2000. My husband got me the secondary 40GB drive for Christmas back in 2003.
Yes, it's what I asked for and since he's into computers too, he got it for
me. :)

Don't ever say that Tom. Just like spending to match income, a hard drive
will invariably fill up with information you just must save.

My server - C=100 GB - programs & installation CD storage, D=160 GB- video
backups saved while working on them, E=250 GB- main data drive , F=300
GB(nightly backup of E, G=250 GB unused at present but just installed 2
weeks ago.

My main working system C & D partitioned 80 GB, E - 160 GB - all video
production

Backup working system C=100 GB, D-160 GB in striped raid died so I purchased
2 250 GB drives - 1 as video storage and 1 as graphics storage and they are
now D & E - all video and graphics production.

I also have USB backup and travel drives 2 @ 80 GB, 2 @ 160 GB, 2 @ 250 GB
and 1 @ 300 GB

Still don't have enough hard drive space for some uses..

I have to disagree. I know everyone does things differently but I've never
come near to filling a harddrive.

Some years back, I decided on a plan of buying a new harddrive every time I
could double the size of my existing drive for less than $100.

I'm now up to a 200G hard drive but the 100G drive it replaced was only 1/3
full and I've added nothing other than throwing on OSs. At one time I had
Windows XP Pro, Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit and Mandrake Linux, each running
in their own partition. The drive was still nowhere near full.

I've stopped even looking at prices of bigger drives now.

Yes, everyone is different. As you show, not everyone needs to have a large
hard drive or multiple drives. And here I am, stuck with one simple
operating system (XP) on each C drive on each of my computers. Just because
I teach Office, I need each version available on the same laptop computer
but most people only need to have one version installed. I also do a lot of
graphic and video editing and need the real estate to store my work in
progress and also the output of that work. Dual layer DVDs allow me to
store some of it but when the raw footage for a movie runs into the 30 & 40
GB range in one .avi uncompressed file and I may use 3 or 4 of these files
in one production, I really need the hard drive space. And, I haven't found
a cheaper storage medium than portable hard drives to store these massive
files. I even have one enclosure that I will pull out one full hard drive
and stick in another. Keeps the number of portable drives I have down.

Currently looking at the terabyte drives out there.
