Office:mac 2008 update won't finish installing

Install always ends in Setup Assistant Error: An error report is issued, and that's as far as it goes. I have a legit version of 10.1 with the install CD.

Ideas?

The Setup Assistant is not necessary. Just to be clear you have an Office
2008 install CD. This is Office 12.0. What is 10.1?
