Office:mac 2008 Upgrade

J

JPDoroc

Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

I purchased the upgrade to 2008 some time ago.
It maybe two years ago, but never tried to install it.

From Office:mac v.X Part no X08=33067

To Office:mac 2008 with Microsoft Expression Media.
Part No X13-85391-02 and
Part No X14-08788-01

I had no reason to migrate to 2008, version X does everything I need.
I use Word, Excel, and Entourage daily with minimal complaints.

Entourage and Word still crash occasionally, but not a big issue.

I am running Tiger 10.4.11, and will retire the Mac book pro for a new mac Book pro with Snow Leopard.

I would like to start the retirement of the older Tiger machine with a back up of the data files to Time Machine. A lot of data files.

Then copy the data to the new mac running Snow Leopard and a fresh install of Office 2008.

Any preference to a Time Capsule / Time Machine restore or a fire wire copy.

Any suggestions, or issues regarding compatability.

Time Machine is not the best way to go. Clone your current drive using
SuperDuper or CCC. SuperDuper is free to clone only.

Entourage 2008 has trouble importing Entourage X Identities. I suggest that
you export your data in Entourage X for import into Entourage 2008.

Using Time Machine to backup Entourage basics:

It's advised by the developers not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage
database. If the database is copied while being used, the backup could be
corrupt. You can set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data
folder and create an iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so
you get one backup daily in Time Machine.
