office need to reinstal every time

One of my users is using office products they load ok when
using the main application

but if he tries via New office Documents
open Office Documents, the microsoft installer starts up,
when the disk is in place it works ok, but reverts back
each time

also in outlook you can not open a document or spread
sheet directy you have to open the application first which
is a major inconvience.

I have created the user a new profile, which works ok, but
the user is unwilling to have a new profile, as somebody
in the past lost the lot when he had his profile moved

does any body have any ideas
