Office Product Key

My old computer died. I tried to install my Office 2000 but discovered I
didn't have my product key...I contacted Microsoft, was charged $35.00 (ok, I
can live with that) than another $10.00 for a new Key. I now have is all
installed ok - BUT I would like to know where I can find it again. Is it
SOMEPLACE on my computer where I can write it down? I sure would hate to go
through that again!

Thanks, JoAnn
I tried to do a screen print of it after I got it entered, but I didn't have
Word installed yet - so hey that didn't work. I guess I will just call them
again and see if they will give it to me so that I can write it down this
time.

I was told it was $10.00 because the product was out of warranty date?
I should just go ahead, bit the bullet and get the new version...
But it sure seems like if you had to enter a number someplace, it should be
stored someplace where I can find it again.

Again, thanks...

Hmm, it's usually free to get another key.

Because you have Office 2000, I don't know of a way. Belarc Advisor doesn't
work on that version. And according to the FAQs, it doesn't work in Magic
Jelly Bean Keyfinder either.

If you're going to do it, now's the time while they are still offering that
service for Office 2000. I suspect those days are numbered.

With office 2000, the CD key is not stored in any way that can retrieved.
I believe that an encoded form of the key is written into one of the many
component files when the product is installed, but I've never been able to
verify that. It's possible that it isn't written anywhere.

There is no "warranty date" on software. Who did you call? Was it Microsoft?

Sorry JoAnn, but there is a "warranty date", check the EULA (90 days
from receipt for Office2003). As to the OP, 10.00 is cheap to get back
to work.

Okay, I'll grant you that one. Never never having heard the term apply to
anything other than how long a product will work threw me off. I've never
heard that term applied to getting a new product key.
